Carroll Community College seeks a part-time Student Life Specialist.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for implementing programs, events, and activities designed to engage and retain students. This position reports to the Director of Student Life.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee all aspects of clubs and organizations that fall under Student Life, including club fair, club recruitment, club leader training and transition, and advisor recruitment and training.
- Implement the Leadership Challenge program by recruiting participants, hosting workshops and events, guiding students through the program with individual meetings, tracking student progression through the program and evaluating student learning outcomes to enhance the program.
- Plan, implement and chaperone Student Life events and off-campus trips to provide opportunities for students to engage with others.
- Market Student Life and campus events through various platforms such as social media, texting, Canvas, and other methods to increase student engagement and retention.
- Coordinate the preparation and printing of the student handbook and planner.
- Assist with implementing New Student Orientation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree in higher education, student development, or related field preferred)
- One year’s work experience relevant to the job functions listed above
- Experience using social media platforms, specifically, Instagram and Facebook
- Experience in event planning (logistics and marketing)
- Experience and proficiency with MS Office products
- Knowledge of leadership theory, group dynamics, communication skills, coaching skills, and conflict resolution
- Ability to use small office equipment (copy machines, multi-line telephone systems)
- Ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment requiring sensitivity to change and responsivity to changing goals, priorities, and needs
- Ability to work approximately 29 hours per week, Mondays-Thursdays, to include daytime hours (8:30 am - 4:30 pm) and flexibility to work possible schedule adjustments to include evening hours and weekends
- Must be positive, cooperative and supportive.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This work is normally light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Periodically, it requires standing for longer periods of time during presentations or fairs. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
- Visual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundings
- Mental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand and convey subject matter
- Repetitive motion (i.e. keyboarding)
- Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common areas, offices, and campus environments. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic laws when/if driving a College vehicle.
