Visiting Nutrition Program Coordinator
Under the general supervision of the Department Chair of Nursing, the full-time, Visiting Nutrition Program Coordinator is responsible for teaching 6 credits per year in area of expertise and overseeing the creation of a graduate program in nutrition and dietetics, which he/she may direct upon state approval.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Program Director (60%)
- In consultation with the Graduate School and members of other academic departments, create proposal for a master’s degree in nutrition;
- Establish a minimum of four preceptor sites for dietetics track within the nutrition graduate program with plans for growth based on enrollment;
- Investigate and apply for extramural funding opportunities for the graduate program;
- Support the Graduate School on recruitment efforts for the graduate program;
- Develop and oversee an assessment plan in alignment with the assessment culture at the College;
- Serve on the Graduate Council as Program Director;
- Establish regional partnerships with the goal of identifying experiential learning opportunities for students and potential research opportunities for faculty;
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Teaching (20%)
- Demonstrate an ability/potential for quality teaching, scholarship/professional development, and dedicated service;
- Teach 6 credits per year in biology, nursing or related fields, at the undergraduate and graduate level;
- Plan courses, write syllabi and design assignments for each course to meet Hood College and departmental curriculum requirements and assessment needs, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques;
- Present lectures, and supervise class activities, on topics appropriate to the course material;
- Instruct students in course content and provide learning opportunities in and out of the classroom to achieve course objectives;
- Critique performance on various assignments to measure the quality of learning, to facilitate skill building, to challenge students’ assumptions, and to reinforce concepts, which must include practical application of new skills;
- Maintain weekly office hours, be available before and after class and be in contact with students as appropriate. Work with student to address problems and resolve issues;
- Determine grades for assignments and for overall achievement in class. Provides appropriate documentation of grades to students and department as appropriate;
- Utilize digital and electronic platforms such as Blackboard and Chalk & Wire in instruction, record-keeping, and data collection;
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
Service (20%)
- Serve as advisor or committee member for master’s students;
- Advise graduate master’s students;
- Support and participate in college committees.

Education and/or Experience
A doctoral degree in nutrition or related field; if the doctorate is not in nutrition, the candidate must have at least a master’s degree in nutrition; dietetics licensure is preferred; a minimum of three years’ teaching experience within the context of an academically rigorous liberal arts institution and/or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred; knowledge of and ability to integrate computer/digital technology in the classroom. Preference will be given to candidates with curriculum development and ACEND accreditation experience. A strong service record and experience with committee and administrative duties.
