JJ Powell, Inc., the last of the Hometown Originals, is seeking an experienced HVAC Technician who is able to perform skilled mechanical maintenance, inspections, repairs, installations, and alterations of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. In addition, they will perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of all related equipment. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
The following are essential functions of the job:
Provide excellent service to customers
Inspects, repairs, modifies and installs HVAC equipment including; boilers, furnaces, heat pump/ air conditioning units.
Knows preventive maintenance
Conducts regular preventive maintenance inspections of units with isolated heating and air conditioning, including boilers and electrically operated heating and air conditioning equipment; makes necessary adjustments or repairs and service to evaporative coolers.
Repairs or replaces defective parts in units, equipment and controls, including but not limited to; thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure controls, and safety valves.
Is an expert tradesperson
Operates a variety of hand and power tools; torch, vacuum pump; tests equipment utilized in the trade and operates a motor vehicle; maintains equipment in safe working conditions; maintain parts and tool inventory. Performs skilled electrical maintenance work through the repairs, installations and alterations of HVAC equipment to include; components, timers, motors and wiring systems, as needed. Test and examine boiler operations, observes meters and pressure gauges; conducts boiler water quality tests and treatments; adjusts boiler burner combustion. Solders, brazes, and glues pipes and fittings.
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekends may be required as business needs demand.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day and will be provided with a company vehicle for all travel needs.
Qualifications, Education & Experience
1. Minimum of two 2 years field experience
2. High school diploma or G.E.D.
3. Valid driver’s license
