Computer Information Services Specialist
Hiring Range: $18.46- $23.76/hour
This is a contractual position with limited State of Maryland benefits
The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development is a nationally recognized leader in affordable housing programs. The department is committed to enhancing our Information Technology capabilities. We are recruiting for a Computer Information Services Specialist I position.
Candidates should have experience evaluating, implementing and maintaining personal computer hardward and software. Candidates may be required to supervise support staff responsible for user support, hardware installation, software installation, data entry, production control and other support functions.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate analytical and organizational skills, and be able to articulate technical information to customers. Customer services skills are essential.
Duties will include installation of software and hardware, fixing computer hardware and troubleshooting network connectivity. Candidates may be required to purchase hardware and software from vendors. They need to be able to establish and maintain a professional relationship with both hardware and software vendors.
Candidates must be able to lift at least 25 pounds without assistance.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications.

1. Additional experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of
computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, data base or other applications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Nine credit hours in personal computer applications at an accredited institution may be
substituted for the required experience.
3. Completion of a certification program in computer repair, such as Microsoft A+ or an
equivalent program, may be substituted for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information Systems specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Six months of professional experience as a help desk technician or technical assistant, six months of experience performing system integration, COMPTIA A+, COMPTIA NET +, and/or Microsoft Certified Professional certification
