Chief Financial Analyst

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is recruiting to fill a Chief Financial Analyst position. This position manages the Financial Analysis Unit. This Unit monitors the statutory compliance and financial solvency of domestic (Maryland) insurance companies, health maintenance organizations, non-profit health plans, dental plans, and managed care organizations which transact business in Maryland, on a continuous on-going basis in order to protect Maryland citizens. The Chief Financial Analyst manages the entire financial analysis process to ensure that the analyses are performed effectively, efficiently and timely, that analysis procedures are sufficient to assess the companies’ financial condition and that procedures will detect financial solvency risk areas and meet MIA and NAIC accreditation standards.  The Chief Financial Analyst researches and develops accounting, financial, regulatory and analysis policies and procedures; identifies significant issues and solvency risk areas and potential troubled companies; and develops recommended MIA course of action. This position provides direct supervision of Assistant Chief Financial Analyst staff and indirect supervision of Financial Analyst I through Senior Financial Analyst staff. The Chief Financial Analyst is assigned to our Baltimore City office and will have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule (between office and telework).  

The minimum requirements for Chief Financial Analyst include:

• a bachelors’ degree from an accredited college or university;
• five years of experience with a state insurance department, public accounting firm or similar audit entity, or another entity in a financial or audit-related area; and four of those years must be in an in-charge or supervisory capacity; and
• an Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) designation is required.
