The Space Telescope Science Institute, located on the Johns Hopkins University Campus in Baltimore, Md., is seeking an Accounting Assistant to support the Accounting Department (Business Resource Center Division).
At this position, you will perform administrative accounting functions and works closely with both staff and Division Management. The position is located in the Baltimore office and offers comprehensive benefits, generous leave & retirement.
Your responsibilities:
Invoice payment processing and verification
Check request processing
Travel authorizations and expense report processing
Automated check processing and EFT remittance preparation
Vendor maintenance and vendor statement research
Research and response to customer inquiries
Reconciliations of General Ledger accounts related to Accounts Payable
About you:
Initiative and the regular exercise of independent judgment in a complex environment
A thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and follow through
Ability to perform a variety of clerical, accounting, and administrative duties
Work independently as well as in a team environment
Capable of performing general mathematical calculations
Basic computer proficiency including experience with MicroSoft Word and Excel
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Good working knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Building and maintaining supportive and effective working relationships with managers and staff
A strong customer service orientation
Previous experience with Deltek’s CostPoint accounting system is a plus
2-4 years of previous Accounts Payable experience
