Publications Marketing and Sales Manager - The American Physiological Society (APS)
The American Physiological Society (APS) is seeking a dynamic publishing professional to innovate the strategic marketing of its scientific publications program and direct its subscription sales operations. As the head of a three person team, the Publications Marketing and Sales Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing marketing strategies and messaging aimed at different audience segments including authors, readers and librarians - to drive manuscript submissions and readership, and stimulate institutional sales. In this role, based in the society’s headquarters in Rockville, MD, you will work collaboratively with the APS marketing and communications departments and report directly to the Chief Publishing Officer.
The Publications Marketing and Sales Manager will also direct all activities of the journals subscription sales program, including managing sales and subscription agents, negotiating licenses directly with institutions, and managing fulfillment operations, with direct responsibility for developing and achieving the sales budget. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including editors, librarians, vendors, and sister societies to build fresh opportunities and achieve maximum exposure for journal uptake.
The ideal candidate will have 6+ years’ experience in scholarly journals marketing and subscription licensing sales, with several years’ experience supervising direct reports. Candidates with expertise in marketing with a good working knowledge of subscription licensing (and vice versa) will be considered. The ideal candidate will need to develop a deep understanding of and passion for the peer-reviewed journals in his/her portfolio. A working knowledge of AMS software systems or the ability to readily adapt to working with the society’s AMS system (Personify) is required.
The American Physiological Society (APS) is a nonprofit devoted to fostering education, scientific research, and dissemination of information in the physiological sciences. The Society was founded in 1887 with 28 members and now has 10,500 members. Most members have doctoral degrees in physiology and/or medicine.
