The University of Maryland College Park is looking for an experienced candidate to coordinate and manage the operation and maintenance of building low and medium pressure steam and condensate return systems at the University of Maryland College Park campus; including, establishing renewal and work priorities of contractual support, verifying work adheres to code requirements and University standards; financial management including creation of requisitions and approval of invoices for completed work. The successful candidate will assist with troubleshooting and analysis of steam and condensate return systems; establish plans, schedules, cost estimates and budget forecasts based on inspections and customer requests; coordinate hazardous material testing and abatement with Environmental Affairs; and, provide technical support to architects, engineers, clients, coworkers, and other affiliated agencies associated with new construction, rehabilitation, renovation and repair projects. This position will respond to emergencies and incidents related to area of responsibility.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and five (5) years of experience with steam systems; without Bachelor’s degree nine (9) years’ experience, five (5) of those with steam systems. Knowledge, skill and experience operating and constructing steam and condensate return building systems; and knowledge of management / supervisory practices required. Must be familiar with ASME pressure vessel code requirements. Must be an effective communicator, both in oral and written form and must have the ability to use computers and be adept at using word-processing and spreadsheet software. On campus and off campus travel will be required; if incumbent drives a State vehicle s/he will be required to possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C driver’s license, or equivalent, with fewer than six points. Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position is Essential and subject to 24-hour/day, 7-day/week span of operation. Benefits include health, dental, vision and prescription insurance plans, tuition remission for employees and dependents, and participation in the State pension system.
