Director of Child Care Center
Job Purpose
Towson University is accepting applications for the Director of the Child Care Center, who is to provide for the overall administration and day-to-day operations of the University’s Child Care Center. They will coordinate curriculum with the College of Education in accordance with Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) guidelines and Towson University goals. Supervise classroom lead teachers and student assistants. Establish developmentally appropriate programs for the children served. Interact with student, parents, guardians and external agencies. Coordinate building needs and maintenance.
Description
Design and implement an appropriate and safe environment for children including classroom, playground and all external areas of the center. Coordinate emergency training with Towson University departments including but not limited to fire drills, shelter in place and any other staff training required. Ensure that all staff members are trained and certified in accordance with Maryland State Department of Education requirements and Towson University policies. Maintain appropriate credentials and professional development to ensure ability to step into classroom to maintain MSDE staffing requirements. Ensure that all staff maintain professional development hours and that classroom staffing is in compliance with MSDE requirements.
Coordinate with the College of Education as to the use of the University Child Care Center to enrich their student learning experience via teaching and observational opportunities. Meet regularly with the College of Education to coordinate research, teaching goals and other special outcomes. Ensure that the University Child Care Center meets all local, state and federal licensing requirements, and oversee compliance with the United States Department of Agriculture food program. Maintain financial viability of the Center. Ensuring that classroom capacities are maintained and plan for future class sizes and child progression from ages 2-4 (5). Oversee enrollment process including touring new families, maintaining wait list, determining admission priority and contract process. Ensure that families remain up to date with all payments to the University and oversee and maintain departmental budget. Lead communication with parents/guardians ensuring that it is transparent and consistent. Interact with parents/guardians in resolving issues (i.e.; financial, behavioral). Support Lead Teachers in parent communication and conferences as needed. Develop and implement professional development plan for Lead Teachers and student staff.
Possible evening or weekend staff meetings or training sessions, center family events and meetings.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 5 or more years of experience in Early Childhood Educational Setting; 90 + 9 Clock Hour certification in Child and Adolescent Development from MSDE. Must have thorough knowledge and be able to demonstrate an understanding of Developmentally Appropriate Practice and child development. Will be required to obtain CPR & First Aid Certification within 3 months of hire, as well as other MSDE requirements. Must understand Reggio Emilia & Montessori philosophy. Must be able to utilize all computer software and technologies, SMART Board, camera, and iPad. Must be able to coordinate professional development plans for Lead Teachers, floating teacher and Assistant Director.
Preferred
Master's Degree. Current MSDE Teacher certification. Three clock hour ADA certification from MSDE. Infant and Toddler certification from MSDE. CPR and First Aid certifications. Experience in a lab school setting.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
