The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks an innovative, dynamic Facilities Management Professional to serve as its Central Plant and Utility Manager, reporting to the Director of Operations and Maintenance for Facilities Management.

The successful candidate will manage the campus Central, Satellite and Event Center plant infrastructure in support of 4 million SF of academic, research and administrative space on a 512-acre campus.  Responsibilities include providing leadership and oversight of an in house and contracted work force responsible for the energy/utility production, distribution and management.  Determine priorities for major repair and plant renewal projects and identify long-term plant renewal/asset preservation funding needs.  Develop and administer programs for maintenance, repair and operation activities and assure continuous operations.  Manages the training and operation of the after hours call center.  Ensures the protection of personnel and equipment is a top priority.  Provides training, materials and equipment to ensure personnel and equipment safety.  Additionally, manages the campus energy/utility management system and makes recommendations on repair priorities, operational improvements and energy conservation methods.  The new Manager will create and sustain an environment that maximizes the contribution of each team member in fulfilling UMBC’s mission while focusing on continuous quality improvement, realizing efficiencies, reducing costs, and delivering excellent customer service.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and five years experience in an applicable field of engineering.  An advanced degree and Professional Licensure as an Engineer is desired. Administrative and managerial experience in maintenance and utilities activities is required. The successful candidate must exhibit a broad knowledge of Facilities Management including both Operations and Maintenance and Construction Management.  Extensive leadership experience, technical expertise, and problem-solving ability and a demonstrated ability to function as part of a collegial, high-performing team are required.  Must be computer literate and able to analyze, interpret and prepare complex technical and financial reports and construction documents and contracts. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and Building Automation Systems, procuring and negotiating facility related contracts, and with a Union workforce desired.
