The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Office of Institutional Advancement is seeking an Assistant Editor. Working closely with marketing, communications, and creative services staff, the incumbent is responsible for content creation, editing, and project management for UMBC Magazine print and digital content. Specific duties include: pitching and writing features on subjects including alumni, campus life, athletics, impact of philanthropy, etc.; coordinating and writing Class Notes; working with Alumni Relations and Development teams on story development; line editing, fact-checking, and database look-up for all stories; oversight of student interns; upkeep of news/magazine websites; assisting with upkeep of style guide and branding toolkits; and performing other duties as assigned.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field required. Excellent writing, editing, research, speaking, and interpersonal skills required. Preferred qualifications: two years of journalism or communications-related experience; current knowledge of print and web styles; experience with WordPress and Photoshop, photography experience. Experience with higher education a plus.
This is a full-time contractual staff position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and compensation includes some university benefits.
