DUTIES:  University of Maryland College Park – The Director of Administrative Services will manage the day-to-day financial, administrative and personnel operations for the Department(s) of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE), Fire Protection Engineering (FPE), and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), which includes the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEI2).

 

Decisions and recommendations made involve non-routine situations within established Departmental and Institutional protocols, guidelines and/or policies. Incumbent is required to oversee, maintain and modify internal office infrastructure to insure that institutional/state/federal policies and procedures impacting all three departments are fulfilled. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Education -- A Baccalaureate degree is required.  A minimum of 10 – 15 years of experience to include 5 years of supervisory experience, as well as experience in positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of finance, personnel, management, research grant and contracts management.  Experience in budget management and oversight.  Previous experience in higher education.

Requesting knowledge of general accounting principles and University policies.  High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as, excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to anticipate and initiate appropriate action in support of the Chairs and department faculty.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.  Excellent record of maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and in providing effective feedback, guidance, and mentorship to departmental staff to foster effectiveness, morale, and engagement.  Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.  Demonstrated attention to detail and proactive work style.
Ability to learn and teach technological and analytical tools for business purposes.  Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills..
