Director of Library Human Resources
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Administrative Services, the Director of Library Human Resources (LHR) leads and administers the human resources and employee relations functions and operations for the University of Maryland Libraries. Duties include planning, organizing, and managing all activities of the HR office, including setting and meeting goals and objectives; providing work and advice related to human resources and employee relations practices and issues; managing and facilitating the library faculty promotion and review process, contributing to plans for organizational and staff development; and assisting in the advancement of the Libraries’ diversity and inclusion goals. The LHR team provides HR-related services for approximately 72 faculty librarians, 102 non-exempt and exempt staff, 30 contract employees, and 20 graduate assistants, and 276 hourly student assistants.
The Director of LHR works closely with University Human Resources colleagues, the Office of the General Counsel, and Library Administration to ensure compliance with federal/state regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and with University and Libraries HR policies and procedures. The incumbent produces HR-related statistics and reports and contributes to the Libraries’ HR-related strategic planning and presentations for key influencers, and directly supervises 1 Librarian and 2 LHR staff, while also having oversight responsibilities for 3 staff.
