The Division of Information Technology (DIT) seeks a Research Analyst to design, conduct, analyze, and visualize surveys and learning analytics research to evaluate the impact of information technology tools and services for students, faculty, and staff at UMD. This is a full-time position and will report to the Senior Research & Assessment Analyst as a part of the Academic Technology Experience (ATEX) team within the Division of IT. This team provides leadership and management of enterprise-wide initiatives related to student, faculty, and staff experiences with technologies. The team employs a quantitative, program evaluation-based approach to provide evidence-based insights, guidance, and recommendations concerning the use and efficacy of DIT systems and services.
The Research Analyst will be responsible for performing analysis, interpretation, and visualization of complex data sources to inform data-driven decision making at all levels of the university. The main duties include preparation of periodic and ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders as well as reporting related to special projects. In addition, the incumbent will be able to find patterns and trends across time or multiple data sources that lead to greater insights and recommendations about the student, faculty, or staff experience at UMD by exploring data with cross-functional teams. They also collaborate with communications and design specialists to create compelling, data-driven stories and messages to the UMD community.

Minimum qualifications
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a social science, data science, higher education administration, business and/or marketing, or other related field.
EXPERIENCE
- 1-3 years’ experience in a data analytics related role, with demonstrated track record of analyzing complex data sets with descriptive, inferential, and predictive data analysis techniques (experience with R, Python, and SQL preferred).
- Experience with online survey administration and reporting with platforms such as Qualtrics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to present a simple, impactful message from complex or large data sets.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing.
- Ability to independently complete and build on assigned tasks.
- Comfortable working with occasional minimal guidance and varied job duties.
- Ability to persuade and lead others to think critically in discussions.
- Must be self-motivated, energetic, detail oriented and a team player.
Preferences
EDUCATION
- Master’s degree in a social science, business and/or marketing, data science, higher education administration, or other related field.
- Experience applying research findings in an applied setting, especially one related to education, online learning, or higher education in the U.S.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Applied or professional training in analysis, visualization, or evaluation.
- Expertise in business intelligence tools, such as Tableau
- Familiarity with translating complex and large data sets into social media or marketing campaigns
Additional information: This position does not provide sponsorship for Visas.
Salary range: $75,000 - $82,000
Physical demands: Sedentary work.
